The suspension of Gabigol for attempting to defraud an anti-doping test was published this Tuesday (26) on the official list of the Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD).
The attacker of Flamengo is now part of a list of 70 athletes suspended from all sports in Brazil. The hook period runs until April 7, 2025.
The red-black number 10’s penalty is the mildest on the list of all those published by the Brazilian Doping Control Authority. He is alongside nine other athletes, all banned from their respective sports for a period of two years. The maximum is four.
Gabigol will seek the suspensive effect at the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) to return to playing before the punishment period. The attacker’s defense will focus on two points: images from the internal circuit of Ninho do Urubu and testimony from the officer who claims to have seen the moment of the urine.
Gabigol’s defense is already mobilizing to file a request for suspensive effect at the CAS as soon as the ruling is published. The understanding is that agility can be important, as it is the only movement capable of making the attacker return to playing while still under his current contract with Flamengo. This is because the judgment of the appeal itself should not take place before the end of the 2024 season.
Suspended by the TJD-AD (Anti-Doping Court of Sports Justice), Gabigol is prevented from training at Flamengo or even visiting the club’s facilities until the situation is resolved. The punishment even affects his future, as the attacker has a contract until December of this year.
