Coudet says Inter could have beaten Juventude in both games and regrets: “The pain we felt” | International

Eliminated in the semifinals of Gauchão, coach Eduardo Coudet lamented yet another fall for Inter before the state decision, this time for Juventude, on penalties, in Beira-Rio. For the third year in a row, the team failed to even reach the final.

After 10 consecutive victories this season, Inter were tied with Juventude after 180 minutes. Thus, the decision went to penalties, where the team was eliminated at home 6-5, after a bizarre charge from Robert Renan. The coach, in fact, said he didn’t know that the defender had already taken a penalty for Zenit, in Russia.

– We came from winning 10 games, drew two and lost on penalties. It’s a pain we feel, the pain of not giving the fans the joy of going to the final. They supported us at all times and the atmosphere was so good that it accelerated the type of game. We did well in the second half, we got a draw, a chance to take the lead. After the expulsion, things become difficult – said Coudet.

– Obviously I’m responsible, but I also think we could have easily won both games. I’m not going to take away the rival’s merits, but I feel that in the details we didn’t manage to reach the final – the coach replied in another question during the post-game press conference.

Juventude took the lead in the first half, thanks to a goal from Zé Marcos. Renê equalized at the beginning of the final stage. In the 30th minute, however, Mauricio was sent off after shooting Nenê. The result never changed, and Inter once again fell on penalties in Beira-Rio.

Coudet also regretted the fact that he could not use some players. The last reinforcements hired (Borré, Thiago Maia, Fernando and Bernabei) arrived after Gauchão’s registration period.

– I think that a lot of the group’s formation, the quantity and quality we have today, we couldn’t use much. With Enner having a problem, Alario was left out, we don’t have Borré. It’s not an excuse, these are things that happen, players who arrived later and we can’t count. We have to maintain a structure – highlighted Chacho.
