This measure already resolves the only existing risk. Brazil has a lot of soy, corn and the production of other derivatives, such as milk. We have nothing to worry about. There is no need to create an alarm considering that measures like this regarding rice have already been taken. If there is any other action to be taken, it will be taken.

The minister commented on the markets’ decision to limit the purchase of rice.

These are people who, through fake news, and this is not the first because many fake news have already been released, create a climate of terror among the population. This person goes to the supermarket and buys more than they need. We have to reassure the population that they don’t need to be afraid of shortages. At the same time, normalize supply and supermarkets no longer have the need to reduce sales.

What the supermarket can do is convince its customers that it does not need to stock rice and beans, this is not the time for that. There is no risk [de desabastecimento].

There is a political attitude of a far-right segment in Brazil, which wants that environment of the worse, the better. Create chaos. This attitude aims to create chaos. There will be no shortage of rice and no shortage of food products.

O UOL News airs from Monday to Friday in two editions: at 10am with a presentation by Fabíola Cidral and at 5pm with Diego Sarza. The program is always live.
