Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will be transferred this Monday afternoon (6) from the Santa Júlia hospital, in Manaus (AM), to the Vila Nova Star hospital, in São Paulo, to treat erysipelas and a condition of intestinal obstruction, according to Fabio Wajngarten, the politician’s lawyer.

Bolsonaro was hospitalized on Sunday (5) in Manaus to treat erysipelas, a bacterial infection that affects the skin and can cause inflammation. He was in the region for a series of events, which included a PL Mulher meeting alongside his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro. The previous day, the politician had been to the same hospital to be treated for the infection, but left the place to continue his agenda.

According to the Santa Júlia hospital, Bolsonaro’s condition when he arrived at the unit on Saturday was “dehydration and an infectious skin process”. “He returned to the hospital after his commitments, where he remains hospitalized for intravenous antibiotic therapy and hydration under the care of infectious disease doctor Dr. Alexandre Souza.”

In Manaus, he participated in an event to launch the pre-candidacy for the PL of federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto for Manaus city hall and received a visit from the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima.

“When people’s immunity drops, due to a variety of problems, erysipelas is a common occurrence, so I’m already medicated, calm, ready for another one,” said Bolsonaro in a video published on Saturday afternoon by Alberto Neto.

This Monday morning, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), one of the former president’s sons, had published on social media stating that Bolsonaro “is doing well, is already reacting well to antibiotics and should be transferred to Brasília today.” .

According to Wajngarte, however, Bolsonaro’s departure not to Brasília, but to São Paulo, is due to an intestinal obstruction that occurred in the early hours of the morning.

In September 2023, the former president already treated the condition at Vila Nova Star, when doctors at the hospital raised the possibility of performing surgery to correct intestinal loops to treat intestinal malfunction. At the time, however, the procedure did not take place because doctors considered that the former president had “adequate intestinal function”, without obstruction.

Digestive disorders have become common in the former president’s health and may be related to traumas such as the stab wound to the politician in 2018 and previous surgeries.

Common symptoms of intestinal obstruction are pain, bloating and loss of appetite.

Erysipelas is a type of bacterial infection that affects the skin and causes inflammation. In general, bacteria usually enter the body through a wound and settle in the superficial layers of skin and fat.

The most common skin changes are redness, swelling and pain. Other symptoms such as fever and chills may also occur. In addition to medication, rest and keeping the leg elevated are also usually indicated to treat the disease.
