Welbert de Souza Fagundes, 26 years old, identified as the killer of Sergeant Roger Dias, was admitted to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) of Nova Contagem, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, for the second time in less than 24 hours.
According to sources from ItatiaiaWelbert burned the mattress in the cell where he was in the infirmary at the Nelson Hungary Penitentiary, in Contagem, and inhaled a lot of smoke, having to be taken to the health unit.
On Tuesday (30), the detainee was found with minor injuries in the cell where he was staying. He said he had deliberately injured himself in protest at the mistreatment he was receiving in the unit.
Welbert shot and killed Military Police Sergeant Roger Dias, during a chase, on January 5th of that year, in the Novo Aarão Reis neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte. The suspect was on the run after receiving the benefit of temporary Christmas leave, and not returning to the prison system.
The author is a defendant for triple homicide against Sergeant Dias. The qualifiers mentioned were: ‘recourse that made it impossible to defend the victim’, ‘crime committed against a public security agent in the exercise of his duties’ and ‘crime committed to ensure impunity for a previous crime’. There is still no date for the trial of the case.
