The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) again asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Friday (26) for at least the “temporary return” of his passport.

The former president again requested that the Supreme Court authorize a trip to Israel at the end of May, to spend between six and seven nights. Lawyers say Bolsonaro received an official invitation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the country, with his family, next month.

Now, the defense claims that there is no risk to the investigations against the former president, and that he can meet any police demands before or after the trip.

“It is crucial to emphasize that authorization for this trip does not entail any risk to the process, especially considering the commitments previously scheduled in Brazil, which require the presence of the petitioner [Bolsonaro] after his return from Israel”, says the defense.

“This circumstance not only attests to the applicant’s responsibility and commitment to his local obligations, but also reinforces the transitory and temporary nature of the trip in question,” the lawyers continue.

Camarotti: Moraes denies returning passport to Bolsonaro

Moraes’ decision in March, which denied the return of the passport for the first time, followed the understanding of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which assessed that a possible trip by the former president abroad would represent a “danger to the development of investigations criminals.

Moraes defended that the measures adopted in February remain “necessary and appropriate”, as the investigation is still ongoing.

“The investigations are ongoing, which is why it is absolutely premature to remove the restriction imposed on the person being investigated, as previously decided by me in absolutely similar situations”, wrote Moraes.

Since the seizure, lawyers have appealed the seizure of the document, but the trial has not yet taken place.
