Jornal da CBN, with Mílton Jung and Cássia Godoy, welcomes Guilherme Melo, Secretary of Economic Policy at the Ministry of Finance, to discuss the objectives and process of debt renegotiation programs for small and micro businesses. Melo highlights that the programs should begin operations in July, after logistical and technological adjustments, and that all large banks have already joined the initiatives.

Regarding discounts on renegotiations, Melo explained that the values ​​may vary depending on the type of debt and the customer’s profile, but that the government is encouraging banks to offer attractive discounts:

‘What the government is doing is creating incentives for financial institutions to be more aggressive in discounts, conditions and taking a significant part of these small companies, micro-enterprises, out of default.’

With regard to debts with the government, Melo indicated that they are already being renegotiated, and highlighted the Federal Revenue Service’s ‘Zero Litigation’ program, which allows debts to be renegotiated online with up to a 70% discount.

‘A process of renegotiation and, let’s say, a solution to the problem of small businesses is already in vogue, also within the scope of the tax authorities. Then you will have the settlement of your bank debts, which you will renegotiate with your bank, and you will have the renegotiation with the tax authorities, which you can also obtain excellent discounts and regularize your situation’.

The secretary highlighted that guided microcredit aims to emancipate beneficiaries of programs such as Bolsa Família, allowing them to generate income through their own ventures, reducing their dependence on social initiatives:

‘The objective of microcredit is exactly the emancipation of these people, that they begin to achieve, through their own entrepreneurial activity and income, and with this, little by little, stabilize themselves and build their small business, no longer depending on any type of income transfer.’
