The death of Joca, a golden retriever dog, following an operational failure by the airline Gol, caused celebrities to demonstrate their outrage on social media. Personalities such as Luisa Mell, Dado Dolabella and Bárbara Paz made posts expressing their consternation and anger.

On Monday (22), the 5-year-old dog Joca embarked with his owner, João Fantazzini, at Guarulhos International Airport (SP). The animal should have landed in Sinop (MT), but ended up being taken to Fortaleza (CE).

When he arrived in Sinop, the tutor waited for Joca to be handed over to him. When he questioned the airline, he was informed that the animal had been taken to the wrong destination. Because of this, João had to return to São Paulo. When he arrived at Guarulhos Airport, João found the dog dead inside the company’s kennel.

The airline Gol announced that it had suspended its animal transport service for 30 days following the death of the golden retriever, named Joca, aged five, who, due to an operational failure, was sent to the wrong airport.

On social media, celebrities expressed outrage after the death of a dog due to an airline’s operational failure:

Luisa Mellpresenter and animal activist: “How many more animals need to die for them to understand that animals are not baggage? It is unacceptable for this situation to continue. I have lost count of how many cases like this have happened in recent years. We demand immediate change in all companies All solidarity with Joca’s family.”

Airline speaks out after dog death

In a statement, the airline informed that it will interrupt the transport of animals for 30 days. “For customers who contracted the transportation of their pet between 04/24/24 and 05/23/24 through services that are restricted, they may opt for a full refund, including the value of their ticket (in the case of Dog&Cat + Espaço), or by postponing the trip, free of charge, until after 05/23/24 on flights until 12/31/2024. Those customers who are at the destination of their trip and have one of the restricted services contracted for the return trip will be served if they wish”, states the statement.
