Driver denied escaping and said he was removed from the scene of the accident by his mother with authorization from the police. He said he felt “a lot of pain”, but did not specify where. Upon leaving the scene, the driver was taken straight to his house. In a statement, Fernando’s defense had already denied fleeing the scene of the crime.
Fernando said he had gone to a poker club before the collision. He denied having consumed alcohol or drugs, but said that his friend, who was in the passenger seat of the Porsche at the time of the accident, had been drinking while they were playing cards.
Driver says his mother didn’t take him to the hospital afterwards because she was receiving threats. The São Paulo Court denied the request for his temporary arrest made by the Civil Police, which is investigating the case.
Defense says it is “premature” to judge the causes of the accident. Lawyers Carine Acardo Garcia and Merhy Daychoum argue that assumptions should not be made, as the expert reports have not been completed. “All the circumstances of the accident will be duly investigated during the investigation, with the broadest collaboration of Fernando”, says the note sent by the defense.
I didn’t drink alcohol (…). I saw the brake light of a vehicle ahead come on, I tried to avoid it and then it went off (…). It was a little above the permitted speed limit (…). I was feeling a lot of pain and was removed by my mother with the permission of the military police.
