The Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), considered a preview of inflation, was 0.36% in March, reported this Tuesday, 26th, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The index is 0.42 percentage points below the February rate (0.78%). The biggest impact this month is due to the rise in food prices.

In the last 12 months, the IPCA-15 variation was 4.14%, below the 4.49% index recorded in the immediately previous 12 months. In March 2023, the IPCA-15 was 0.69%. The IPCA-E, which is the IPCA-15 accumulated quarterly, was 1.46%, below the rate of 2.01% recorded in the same period of 2023.

According to IBGE, of the nine groups of products and services surveyed, five registered increases in March. The biggest variation and biggest impact came from food and beverages. Food at home rose 1.04% in March. Contributing to this result were increases in onions (16.64%), chicken eggs (6.24%), fruits (5.81%) and long-life milk (3.66%).

Eating away from home (0.59%) accelerated in relation to the month of February (0.48%), due to the more intense increase in meals.
Next came the transport and health and personal care groups. In transport, there was a drop in the price of airline tickets, but a rise in fuel prices of 2.4%. Ethanol rose 4.27% and gasoline, 2.39%. Vehicle gas (-2.07%) and diesel oil (-0.15%) recorded a drop.

In health and personal care, the result was influenced by the health plan (0.77%), pharmaceutical products (0.73%) and personal hygiene items (0.39%).
