The heavy rains that have hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul since last Monday (29) have caused numerous disruptions and losses, including deaths. One of the most affected regions is Centro Rio-Grandense. Given the situation, several radio stations continue to be mobilized and providing coverage of the storms. Furthermore, Greater Porto Alegre also suffers from storms.

The municipality of Santa Maria (RS), located in Central Rio-Grandense, was the one that recorded the highest volume of rain to date, accounting for 436.2 millimeters. Furthermore, Bento Gonçalves (RS) and Soledade (RS) are also in the ranking of cities that recorded the highest volume of rain in recent days. To date, 11 deaths have been reported in the state, as well as missing, injured and displaced people.

With the aim of informing and providing services to the population, several radio stations remain on duty to deal with adverse weather conditions in affected cities. The RS COM group, for example, has reporters spread across different points. Professionals are going live on broadcasters’ programming to inform and bridge the gap between civil defense, city halls and listeners. Coverage also extends to digital, through Leouve portal.

The RS COM group is considered the largest communication group in Serra Gaúcha. It is made up of several stations, including Jovem Pan FM 90.7 from Porto Alegre (RS), Jovem Pan FM 92.5 from Bento Gonçalves (RS), Rádio Viva FM 94.5 from Caxias do Sul (RS), Rádio Bento AM 1070 from Bento Gonçalves (RS) and Band FM 106.1 from Garibaldi (RS).

Another municipality hit by the storms is Lajeado (RS). The Taquari River, which passes through there, broke a flood record and exceeded 30 meters, reaching the highest level in history. To the The city’s radio stations are also on duty regarding the rain calamity in the state.
