“What’s strange about all of this is that, for us, the contract with Century Media ended with the last album [‘Overtures Of Blasphemy’, de 2018]. The whole Covid thing came up and for the first time I was out of contract. I thought, ‘Wow, it feels really good not to have anyone breathing down my neck.’ The fact that Covid appeared was perfect timing. Now, I can rest my brain a little, enjoy my free time, learn the ‘Legion’ material [segundo disco do Deicide, lançado em 1992] and write the album at will”, reported Benton, who had fun making his band’s new album.

“I told everyone [da banda] to bring a song to rehearsal; we would take it apart, put it back together and be happy with this song. We weren’t pushing, we weren’t rushing, we didn’t even have a deadline. People don’t understand when you have that kind of pressure on your back. This takes all the fun out of the job. I didn’t have that pressure.

What we were doing was getting together as friends, writing songs and doing it in a fun way again, like the first record. There was no pressure. We wrote a sick record. I think, at the end of all this and at the end of my career, you can’t care too much about things (…). After so many records, it’s like we said, ‘Here it is. I don’t give a fuck what you think.’ There are a number of factors that contributed to this. I wasn’t under pressure. I was able to sit on the couch with my acoustic bass and write some riffs. It was fun,” added Benton.
