Sepultura’s “Troops Of Doom” riff was inspired by Black Sabbath’s classic

-

Brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera, founders of the band Cavalera Conspiracy, spoke about the origins of the song “Troops Of Doom”, which was released in 1986, as a track on “Morbid Visions”, Sepultura’s first studio album.

“It was the first time we made a song that stood out for some reason and that’s the beauty of the magic of music. When you’re making songs, you never know what’s going to become more popular or not.

Even after we started touring for all the records, ‘Troops Of Doom’ was always on the setlist because it’s a really cool song. I think the original riff, I was very inspired by Sabbath, especially ‘Heaven and Hell’ [música do Black Sabbath] and that’s how I created the first riff”, reported Max, in a video that was published on the Cavalera Conspiracy channel this Monday (April 1).

“It’s not like a hit single in pop music, but in the metal world it’s a hit song, it’s a crazy song that people want to hear, fans want to hear and that’s great. I think this is the third, third or It’s the fourth time we’re re-recording ‘Troops Of Doom’, which shows how good the song is”, added the iconic frontman.

“We have a lot of versions of this song and I just have to say that this last version we did is probably my favorite because it’s just the right speed. That’s what happens with ‘Troops Of Doom’, the different versions capture different moments of our lives, where we wanted to play faster or slower. But I think this [versão] it has the exact speed I wanted to hear on the record”, added Iggor, referring to the version of “Troops Of Doom” that was released in July 2023.
