Max Cavalera surprises by commenting on his biggest musical idol outside of rock

For Guitar World, Max Cavalera chose the 10 musicians who shaped his sound. There are obvious choices, like Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), and others not so much, like The Edge (U2). The surprise on the list was certainly the only non-rocker — Bob Marley.

“That’s something different, coming from a whole other musical region: he was a revolutionary with that guitar! He was a master of composition, a complete artist in every way, he could compose those incredible chords and memorable songs that will live forever. I collected everything that belonged to him, went to Jamaica three times and visited his grave… I even worked on three Soulfly albums with his graphic artist, Neville Garrick, who told me all the stories in many hours of conversation about it.”
