The next chapter of Blade Runner found its star. Michelle YeohOscar winner for Everything Everywhere at the Same Timewill star Blade Runner 2099series of Amazon which continues the story of the cyberpunk classic.
Yeoh is a veteran actress who, in addition to Everything in Everywhere at Once, starred in classics like The Tiger and the Dragon. Her television experience includes The Witcher: Inception and, more recently, The Sun Brothers.
The story of Blade Runner 2099 takes place in Los Angeles and follows Cora, a woman in search of a safe future for herself and her brother. Yeoh will play Olwen, a Blade Runner who is at the end of her life and, together with the young woman, discovers a conspiracy that threatens the entire city.
Ridley Scottdirector of the first Blade Runner from 1982, will produce the series that will be released on Prime Video.
The production will be a sequel to the 2017 film, Blade Runner 2049directed by Dennis Villeneuve and starring Ryan Goslingand its script is Silka Luisa (Invisible Girls), who will be the showrunner. Jonathan van Tulleken will direct the first two episodes. As the name suggests, the story takes place 50 years after the most recent film.
Blade Runner: The Android Hunter, by Scott, follows a corporation that develops human clones to be used as slaves in colonies outside Earth, identified as replicants. In 2019, a former police officer named Deckard (Harrison Ford) is called to hunt down a group of fugitives living undercover in Los Angeles. The cast features Rutger Hauer and Sean Young. Villeneuve’s sequel moves 30 years into the future to show the replicant Joe (Ryan Gosling) investigating and discovering secrets about what happened to Deckard after the events of the original feature film.
At the moment, Blade Runner 2099 does not yet have a release date.
