“I don’t intend to do homework at the movies”: Deadpool & Wolverine will be perfect for those lost in Marvel’s multiverse – Cinema News

New film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine opens on July 26th in Brazilian cinemas.

Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated films by superhero fans. Ryan Reynolds’ loud-mouthed antihero is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Disney’s purchase of Fox. But director Shawn Levy assured that this won’t be a problem for those who followed Deadpool and don’t know much about the MCU.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Levy assured that prior knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be mandatory to enjoy Deadpool & Wolverine.

I was a good student at school. I will do my homework as an adult. But I definitely don’t plan on doing homework when I go to the movies. I made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has maximum fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to assume that. This film was made for entertainment, without the obligation to come prepared with prior research

Shawn Levy also said that Disney and Marvel Studios allowed them to make whatever film they wanted, obviously following the successful formula of the previous ones, Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). “There was no way to reinvent a wheel, a tonal wheel, that worked so well. Both Disney and Marvel, up and down the food chain, empowered Ryan and I to make this movie exactly as we dreamed it would be.”.

In the film’s plot, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is recruited by the Time Variance Authority (AVT or TVA, in English), an organization presented and fundamental in the Loki series, to solve the problems of the superhero franchise’s multiverse. On this journey, the chatty anti-hero will be joined by none other than the surly Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). What we know is that Deadpool & Wolverine will bring back characters from Fox’s old X-Men universe – some of which have already appeared in the trailers.

Deadpool & Wolverine premieres on July 26th in Brazilian cinemas.
