A box office success with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt at the helm.

In the near future, the new scenario on Earth has put an end to life as we know it. Hordes of aliens have waged a fierce battle against the planet and humanity, and they seem truly invincible: no army in the world has been able to defeat them. So when Commander Bill Cage, who has no battlefield experience, is sent without explanation on what appears to be a suicide mission, he seems to have no chance.

To no one’s surprise, Cage (who is played by Tom Cruise again in an extraterrestrial sci-fi after War of the Worlds) dies within minutes. However, the protagonist’s life does not end there.

Instead, the character is thrown into an infinite time loop, condemned to reliving the same battle over and over, dying each time. So, as he faces a new fight, the commander learns new combat techniques that ensure he is more resilient against his alien enemies.

This is the premise, interesting to say the least, of the exciting science fiction feature film Edge of Tomorrow, a film that celebrates no less than its tenth anniversary in 2024 and that, if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth it discover (or rediscover) as we prepare for a possible sequel. If we’ve convinced you, take note: you’ll find it in the Max and Prime Video catalogs.

Released in 2014, Edge of Tomorrow was directed by Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) and has Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt at the helm. Action, humor, originality and a pair of protagonists who work perfectly together converge in a fast-paced film that is difficult to find fault with.

The production received an excellent score from readers of I love cinema, who gave it 4.3 stars out of a possible 5. Our reviewer gave the film a score of 4 stars, highlighting that “Edge Of Tomorrow (in the original) it has great visual effects and incredible production design. The costumes, especially the armor, are very realistic, reminding us a bit of Elysium, by Neill Blomkamp.”

However, although the critical reception was good, the box office was lower than expected. Warner Bros. took a million-dollar risk with an investment that reached 178 million dollars, therefore, the results had to be excellent for the film to be considered a success. In the end, Edge of Tomorrow managed to save itself with a box office gross of $370 million, which would have been a real success if it hadn’t had such a high budget.
