One of his main characters in Johnny Depp’s four-decade career is Jack Sparrow, the flagship of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise in five successful feature films. And he is also one of the Hollywood stars with the most fervent fan base – despite a series of controversies in recent years, mainly the legal conflict with accusations of abuse and mutual aggression between him and his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard .

Therefore, the statement by the saga’s producer Jerry Bruckenheimer – one of the most successful in Hollywood with ‘Top Gun’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘Bad Boys’, among others, on his resume – about the reset that should be done in ‘ Pirates 6’ fell like a bomb on the internet. “We’re going to do a reboot of ‘Pirates’, so that it’s easier to put everything together, because then you don’t have to wait for certain actors,” said the executive.

“It doesn’t make sense to have ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ without Johnny Depp. He’s the soul of this franchise, that’s bullshit! The reboot is going to sink,” said one internet user, setting the tone for the backlash. “Johnny Depp’s presence is the reason why we all continue to go to the theaters and why these films continue to make an obscene amount of money at the box office.” , criticized another, only for things to escalate further.

“If Johnny Depp isn’t in this new film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, I won’t watch it, Disney. No Johnny Depp, no ‘Pirates'”, roared a fan, who had many agreements regarding a possible boycott of the new film without the presence of the star. Here’s another example of a comment: “A reset? With another actor as Captain Jack Sparrow? That’s stupid… Boycott the movie… No Johnny Depp = no Pirates of the Caribbean and no Jack Sparrow.”

A sequel to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ saga has been in the works for some time – it’s one of Hollywood’s most profitable franchises and there hasn’t been a new film released since ‘Salazar’s Revenge’ seven years ago.

The producers said they had two paths to follow: a film led by a woman, who would initially be played by Margot Robbie, and another with a completely new – and young – cast.

Based on Bruckenheimer’s recent statements, the tendency is to pursue the second option.

This, of course, displeases Depp’s fans, especially because they had renewed hope that the 60-year-old actor would be Jack Sparrow again due to statements made by the former president of Disney studios, Sean Bailey, in the middle of last year, not ruling out the return of the protagonist from previous feature films.

But it is worth mentioning that the star himself has already stated that he would not like to play the role that gave him the first of his three nominations for the Oscar for Best Actor and an award from the Screen Actors Guild, a prestigious event of the Actors’ Union, again.

When asked what would make him return, he replied, “Nothing on this Earth, not even 300 million dollars and a million alpacas.”
