Inmaculada is the next horror feature film to hit Brazilian cinemas.

Inmaculada, the horror feature film starring Sydney Sweeney, hasn’t even premiered in Brazil yet, but it’s already making waves in the USA. Following Sweeney’s religious character, who becomes pregnant despite never having had sex, the film distorts religious dogmas, which, naturally, has angered some Christian groups.

However, the criticism doesn’t seem to bother the studio, quite the opposite. In a marketing action designed especially for the week before Easter, Neon – the studio behind the project – decided to tackle the controversy, as part of its advertising strategy.

We don’t know when we’ll be able to see season 4 of The Chosen on streaming, but the series’ creator has just given fans joy

With some posts on social media, the studio took advantage of criticism that had gone viral, to literally print the film’s promotional material. In one of these reviews, a user calls the film “blasphemous, satanic, feminist, pro-abortion and anti-life that degrades Christians”, in addition to “also humiliating Mary, mother of Christ”.

Another hateful comment to go viral used words like “Diabolical”, “profane”, stating that Imaculada “spits in the face of everything that is sacred. Just… evil”. And just as you, horror fan, probably thought when reading these comments, the studio also asked itself “are you a fan or a hater?”.

Just in case, such “criticisms” also became part of one of the posters published on Neon’s networks. Check it out below:

Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney’s film has already surpassed a major milestone in the US, setting the record as the studio’s highest-grossing opening day and grossing more than $5 million.

Inmaculada premieres on May 30, in Brazilian cinemas.
