For 40 years, no one managed to adapt this monstrous literary work.

In 1984, the novel Neuromancer by William Gibson conquered the world of science fiction, later influencing works such as The Matrix and the manga Ghost in the Shell. Over the years, the book has come close to being adapted for the big screen several times – now, an adaptation is finally coming… and in series form!

AppleTV+ announced that a series was being developed by Graham Roland (Jack Ryan) and director JD Dillard (Brothers of Honor). The show will consist of a total of ten episodes.

Many failed attempts at cinema

Set in the future, the novel follows Henry Case, “cowboy” of cyberspace, a hacker who travels through the Matrix – but, after losing the ability to connect, he believes all is lost. Hired for one last job, Henry comes into contact with powerful artificial intelligence.

Neuromancer is the first science fiction novel by William Gibson, generally considered the founding novel of the cyberpunk movement. Therefore, it makes sense that for years cinema tried to adapt this literary monster, but without success. Fans were only treated to references within pop culture.

An incredibly expensive science fiction film is on Prime Video: Greater excess with gigantic monsters is impossible

Projects were idealized, but remained in “development hell” for years. Cubo director Vincenzo Natali came close to achieving this on several occasions. Stars like Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson were attached to the project, but financing didn’t come through.

More recently, a film adaptation from Deadpool director Tim Miller seemed to have a better chance, but fell by the wayside after Disney bought Fox. The path was now clear for Apple and a series could be a better, more suitable idea. to tell this complex story across multiple episodes.
