Would Jack fit in the door with Rose or not? The controversial door in the film Titanic, released in 1997, was sold for US$718,750 (equivalent to R$3.5 million) at the Treasures From Planet Hollywood auction, in the United States. According to the New York Postthe sale took place last week, being the most bid item.

In the production directed by James Cameron, with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as protagonists, the door appears in the final scenes. After the sinking of the Titanic, Jack makes Rose lie down on the piece of wood, so as not to be in the water, while waiting for rescue.

However, the door couldn’t support their weight, and Jack decides to leave Rose on top of the door. While waiting in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic, he prolonged exposure to cold.

On social media, users joked about the purchase. “The buyer just want to test if two people would fit,” joked one netizen, while another declared, “Rich people will buy anything as long as you give it some value.”

Heritage Auctions detailed that other iconic pieces, which are part of the Hollywood’s cinematic legacy, were also on the auction block. Among these pieces were:
