MS University Hospitals join forces to send donations to RS with support from Azul – Geral

On April 9, 2024, at 4 o’clock in the morning at Campo Grande International Airport (MS), donation boxes containing hospital products such as surgical gloves, catheters, hypodermic needles and scalps were being dispatched towards Rio Grande do Sul bound for HU-Furg (University Hospital Dr. Miguel Riet Corrêa Jr of the Federal University of Rio Grande) and HE-UFPel (UFPel Teaching Hospital of the Federal University of Pelotas). The donation was made by the university hospitals of Mato Grosso do Sul, Humap-UFMS (Hospital Universitário Maria Aparecida Pedrossian) and HU-UFGD (University Hospital of the Federal University of Grande Dourados). The four institutions are affiliated with Ebserh (Brazilian Company of Hospital Services), which, in a joint and proactive action, managed to send assistance supplies through Azul Linhas Aéreas, completely free of charge, with the aim of helping to save many lives, in this Such a delicate moment that the population of Rio Grande do Sul is facing.

In 1906, Alberto S. Dummont, considered the father of aviation, may not have envisioned that his creation could shorten so many paths, bringing solidarity more quickly to those who need it most in this moment of calamity, especially for future generations. But what he knew was about the power of mobilization and the size of the hearts of Brazilians. It is a fact that the entire Nation is in a chain of good, racing against time, carrying out collections of food, clothes, medicines, water, mattresses, clothes bed, blankets, flashlights and batteries and more: exercising your volunteerism, your empathy and saying your prayers so that all lives are saved. And the university hospitals in Mato Grosso do Sul, which deal with lives every day, healing, saving, nurturing, bringing others into this world, could not help but show solidarity with Rio Grande do Sul.

United, Humap-UFMS and HU-UFGD, spared no effort to optimize logistics and send inputs as soon as possible. The pharmaceutical supply and supplies sectors of both hospitals were responsible for all logistics and organization of donations.

Carlos Alexandre Dias, Head of the Pharmaceutical Supply and Supplies Sector at HU-UFGD, tells how this solidarity movement happened: “we follow the consequences of these floods in RS on television. The loss of homes, evacuations of entire communities, all a painful testimony to this relentless force of nature. In this moment of adversity, it is essential that we come together in this solidarity action to reduce discomfort and help those in need. With actions like this, we can offer a ray of hope to people who are facing these challenges. I really hope that this gesture inspires people and other bodies to join in this collective effort to alleviate the suffering of the population of Rio Grande do Sul and that they will soon be able to rebuild what was lost.”

“We received a request for help to send hospital supplies (medicines and materials) and we tried to help them in the best way possible. After analyzing our stock situation and the hospital’s consumption, we found that it was possible to meet almost all of the items requested. As the Network’s Hospital Unit is in a vulnerable situation, we saw the need to send as many supplies as possible. . We strive to arrange transportation as quickly as possible so that supplies arrive as quickly as possible and thus avoid harm to patient treatment. We understand the seriousness of the situation they are experiencing and we are happy to be able to help them in this moment of public calamity” he explains.
