Mobile phone signal and other telecommunications services partially operate in 222 cities in Rio Grande do Sulas a result of heavy rains and floods that hit the Rio Grande do Sul last week. Partial interruption occurs when there is at least one operator operating in a given region, even if others have affected service.

In four other municipalities, the mobile phone blackout is complete: Arroio do Meio, Doutor Ricardo, Eldorado do Sul and Progresso. In these locations, there is no telephone signal. The balance was presented this Thursday by the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, who went to Porto Alegre to monitor the response actions to the crisis.

“In addition to operators working to resume mobile broadband service, small and medium-sized providers are, as far as possible, with teams mobilized to restore the service,” stated the minister. He met earlier with the association of small and medium-sized broadband internet providers and heard reports that some of these companies were hit hard by the climate event.

The minister promised support from the federal government for the recovery of the sector. Also according to Juscelino Filho, Telebrás provided an antenna for high-speed broadband internet connection via satellite, which were allocated in areas that continue to have regular services interrupted.
