The story of excellence and success in healthcare in Rio Grande do Norte

There is no exaggeration in saying that Hospital Paulo Gurgel, founded as a modest Prontoclínica in 1985 by the renowned biochemical pharmacist Paulo Gurgel de Medeiros and his wife, Francisca Nilma de Medeiros, is today one of the main health institutions in Rio Grande do Norte.

Indeed, since its birth, the family business has experienced exponential growth, expanding its services from pediatrics and laboratory tests to other specialties such as internal medicine, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedics, general surgery and urology.

With a history marked by excellence in patient care, the former Prontoclínica became a reference in the region, serving not only the population of Natal, but also neighboring municipalities that are part of the metropolitan region of the Capital.

There are currently 50 beds and an ICU with a further nine dedicated beds.

The other numbers are also superlative, as administrative director Emerson Vladmir Gurgel de Medeiros recalls: a team of 250 doctors, including the 120 who work in the Emergency Department, and another 265 employees to serve an average clientele of 12 thousand patients per month.

With these numbers, it is no surprise that Paulo Gurgel hospital has the largest contract portfolio among all medical institutions in Natal.

Recently, the structure underwent a significant expansion, with the inauguration of a new surgical center.

Today, with a total space of 11 thousand m² of built area, the clinic has four operating rooms and 49 beds, occupied most of the time by low and medium complexity surgical admissions.

All this modernity and growth are the result of efficient management over three decades of operation in the market.

On the board of directors, leading the company, are Emerson Vladmir Gurgel de Medeiros, administrative director; Dr Carmem de Mello, medical director; Francisca Nilma de Medeiros, general director and Everton Gurgel de Medeiros, technical director.
