The fleet of electric cars increased almost two and a half times in Sergipe between March 2022 and March 2024, according to data from the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran). With this, the state reached the fifth highest proportion of vehicles powered by electricity compared to other fuels in the Northeast. According to the survey, there are more than 1520 electrified vehicles running in Sergipe, where 79% are registered in Aracaju alone.

The numbers also take into account hybrid models, which use fuels other than electricity to power their engines. The research proves the full growth in demand for this type of car, which still represents just 0.35% of the capital’s total fleet. However, special financing conditions have quickly changed this scenario.

With an eye on this audience, financial institutions are promoting sustainable development and encouraging the adoption of means of transport powered by clean energy through exclusive credit lines for hybrid and electric vehicles. This is the case of Sicredi, a cooperative financial institution that is highly sought after for this type of business.

Tax breaks

“The government has offered tax incentives and benefits for the purchase of electric cars, making them more accessible and attractive to consumers. People are increasingly concerned about the sustainability and environmental impact of vehicles powered by fossil fuels, which has driven the demand for cleaner and more sustainable electric vehicles”, explains Ana Paula Vieira, Credit Cycle Advisor at Central Sicredi Nordeste .

For the expert, advances in electric car technology, such as greater autonomy, have led to greater consumer confidence, stimulating an increase in sales and financing of these vehicles. She also points to the cost reduction with an electrified vehicle. “In the long term, electric cars may cost less to maintain than traditional combustion vehicles due to less maintenance and lower energy costs,” she adds.

Competitive interest rates

When making the transition between vehicle models, drivers have primarily sought competitive interest rates on their financing, which results in more favorable conditions for those wishing to purchase an electric car. “As it is a cooperative financial institution, Sicredi can have more flexible and accessible credit analysis processes, making it easier to obtain financing for the purchase of an electric car”, guarantees Ana Paula Vieira.

Symbols of conscious consumption, electric cars offer significant benefits, including zero pollutant emissions, less dependence on fossil fuels, lower operating costs due to less maintenance and cheaper energy, and smooth, quiet performance. Tax incentives and advanced technology also make adoption more attractive. These factors combined have become an increasingly sustainable and economical choice for many consumers in Sergipe.
