Industrial production in Mato Grosso do Sul fell 4.3% in March, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The comparison is with the month of March last year. The State is one of the 11 where there was a decline in production in the same comparison.
The IBGE’s justification is Holy Week, which this year fell at the end of March. “It is worth mentioning that March 2024 (20 days) had 3 fewer working days than the same month in the previous year (23)”, recalled the IBGE.
The IBGE also identified a decline in São Paulo, the largest industrial park in Brazil (-1.6%). There were also losses in Paraná (-12.6%), Amazonas (-10.9%), Pernambuco (-6.3%), Northeast Region (-5.7%), Minas Gerais (-3.6%) , Bahia (-3.4%), Santa Catarina (-2.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (-2.1%) and Maranhão (-1.8%).
On the other hand, there were advances in Rio Grande do Norte (16.3%), Goiás (7.0%), Espírito Santo (4.0%), Rio de Janeiro (3.1%), Mato Grosso (2. 1%), Pará (2.0%) and Ceará (0.5%).
In the survey average, Brazilian industry fell 2.¨% compared to March 2023.
From one month to the next
When compared to the month of February, industrial production in Mato Grosso do Sul was stagnant. The Monthly Industrial Survey – Regional Physical Production, from IBGE also identified that in SP, in this same comparison, there was a decline of 0.4%.
The other declines were in Amazonas (-13.9%), Paraná (-13.0%), Ceará (-7.7%), Pernambuco (-4.8%), Espírito Santo (-4.7%) , Minas Gerais (-2.4%), Rio de Janeiro (-2.1%), Northeast Region (-1.8%) and Goiás (-1.4%).
On the other hand, there was an increase in Pará (3.8%), Mato Grosso (2.5%), Santa Catarina (2.3%), Bahia (0.5%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.1% ).
In the global average of the survey, the national industry grew 0.9% in March compared to February.
