Amazonas will have more than R$200 million to invest in water supply and urbanization

There are 19 projects for the State and municipalities, in the areas of Water for All and Sustainable and Resilient Cities, within the federal government’s new growth acceleration program, PAC Sleções

The State of Amazonas was awarded resources in the order of R$ 206.1 million to be invested in projects by the state government and municipalities in the state, within the New PAC Seleções, from the Federal Government, in the Water for Sustainable and Resilient Cities axes. In total, there are 19 projects for the State and municipalities focused, for example, on water supply and urbanization.

Present at the announcement ceremony, held on Wednesday (08/05), by President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva and the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, the governor of Amazonas recalled that since the beginning of the New Growth Acceleration Program the Amazonas was consulted about its priorities and has been included in the selections.

“These are important announcements for the State of Amazonas and, mainly, taking into account the difficulties we have in the capital in relation to the issue of drainage, in relation to those people who live in risk areas”, declared Wilson Lima.

In 2023, in the first announcement by the federal government, among the projects proposed by Wilson Lima and accepted by the Federal Government is the modernization of the Manaus Moderna terminal, the main entrance to the state of Amazonas and its capital Manaus by river. At the moment, the State Government is waiting for the project to be completed and the works to begin.

Amazonas in the New PAC

Of the total approved proposals, 13 are from the State Government, totaling R$ 154.6 million that should be used to reinforce the water supply in rural areas, as is already being done with its own resources to set up water supply systems. water capture and treatment, and also for urbanization in the capital. Another six projects included are aimed at municipalities, totaling R$51.5 million.

In March of this year, the New PAC had already covered Amazonas with 154 works. These include full-time schools, basic health units, daycare centers and other public facilities aimed at improving people’s quality of life.

Parintins Festival

Still in Brasília, this Wednesday, Governor Wilson Lima met with the Minister of Defense, José Mucio. The focus was on the 57th Parintins Festival with regard to air and river operations in the state, as well as the safety of aircraft and vessels during the festival period.

The governor received guarantees for operations and highlighted the socioeconomic importance of the festival for the municipality and the entire state, in addition to strengthening cultural and tourism. In terms of job creation alone, the forecast is for 2,400 direct jobs and 24,000 indirect jobs to be promoted by the state government. Furthermore, the Caprichoso and Garantido oxen together should generate around 5 thousand direct jobs.

This year, the expected attendance on the island is around 120,000 visitors. In flight operations alone, the expectation is close to 1,000 operations during the festival. In 2023, around 800 operations were carried out. The projected turnover in the local economy with tourism is more than R$150 million, exceeding the R$146 million handled in 2023.
