Folha accuses the government of lying, but does not show what the lie is – Department of Social Communication

In a text published on Wednesday night (8), without hearing any government representative, the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo makes a serious accusation. He stated that the “government lies when it states that it did not waive Uruguay’s offer of aid to RS.”

To support this statement, the newspaper compares a note from the Ministry of Defense’s communications department with a note from Secom on the same topic as if they were contradictory. They are not.

The note from the Ministry of Defense states that “the joint Military Command declined to offer the aircraft [do Uruguai] due to restrictions on available runways for landing in Porto Alegre”.

The second note, prepared to combat an avalanche of fake news around the subject (such as that the government was refusing aid from Uruguay for ideological reasons), informs that Brazil did not refuse aid from Uruguay, citing a helicopter provided by the neighboring country already in operation, it shows the image of this kindly loaned aircraft and explains that, in the case of the plane, the equipment was found to be unsuitable for the type of operation required in Rio Grande do Sul at that time.

What is the lie? What is the contradiction? It doesn’t exist.

The Brazilian government does not refuse assistance from Uruguay. Brazil received from the neighboring country, and is grateful for this, the loan of a helicopter, crew, expressions of solidarity, maintenance of the supply of the plane and other equipment in case of need. These are all very welcome offers.

There is a non-negligible distance between the restructuring of the offer to the specific needs of the operation and the false statement that Brazil refuses help from Uruguay.
