Pedro Kemp demands measures to reduce the number of elective surgeries in Campo Grande

-

Deputy Pedro Kemp (PT) made an appeal in the tribune of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul (ALEMS), during the ordinary session this Wednesday (8), for the State Government and the Municipality of Campo Grande to act to reduce the waiting list for ophthalmological consultations and cataract surgeries. The parliamentarian suggested the expansion of agreements and the adoption of plans for carrying out medical care and procedures.

“Currently, around 11,500 patients are waiting for ophthalmological consultations and 4,700 are waiting for cataract surgery in Mato Grosso do Sul. There are patients waiting for eight years for care. We request that efforts be made by both authorities to enhance services, urgently reducing waiting lists,” he said.

Kemp highlighted that the Capital is experiencing chaos in the health sector. “I received photos of the overcrowded Jardim Leblon Health Center, including a patient lying on the floor, a closed Social Assistance room and no doctors to assist. This has been happening in all health units, as the outbreak of respiratory diseases has worsened and hundreds of people require emergency care,” he said.

Due to the long waiting lines for the first consultation in elective orthopedic surgery, general plastic surgery, ophthalmology and imaging exams, the State Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPE) filed Public Civil Actions with Requests for Emergency Provisional Guardianship in the face of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and the municipality of Campo Grande.

“The situation is serious and we need urgent measures. In all Public Civil Actions, the Public Ministry gave a period of 180 days for a concrete action plan to be implemented, with defined goals and schedule, to reduce waiting lists”, informed Kemp.

Professor Rinaldo Modesto (Podemos) and Pedrossian Neto (PSD) defended the approval of the bill that includes the transparency of the Regulation System, so that users can check what position they are in and have an estimate of when they will carry out the procedure.

“There are 61 thousand people waiting for consultation with specialists and 14 thousand people on the waiting list for elective surgeries. It is necessary to establish a Transparency Portal”, stated Pedrossian.
