In an ideal scenario, the couple awaiting the arrival of a child wants peace of mind in the final stretch of the pregnancy, but when the parents are military firefighters, altruistic by nature, humanity gives another tone to the story. Gauchos by birth and residents of Campo Grande, the couple of military doctors Rodolfo Xaubet and Pietra Zorzo, did exactly that in the face of the tragedy that devastates Rio Grande do Sul.

Pregnant, she stayed in the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul while her husband, a lieutenant in the Fire Department, went to RS to help the victims of the floods that affected 401 of the 497 municipalities since the end of April.

In addition to the baby in the womb, the couple has little Sofia, almost two years old, who with her mother proudly watches the bravery of her father who became not only her hero, but of the states that are part of the family’s history. In MS 2 this Wednesday (8), the military “met again”.

Via video call, the doctor was surprised by his wife who was in the studio with presenter Bruna Mendes. Initially the lieutenant thought he would only talk about humanitarian work in his home state. Rodolfo became known for singing Gaucho songs during rescues.

“We carried out the rescue safely, but there is an emotional and spiritual factor, so music helps to take away this moment of suffering”. As soon as he finished speaking, his wife appeared in the studio and emotion took over. Longing flowed through his eyes.

“I’m here, but with my heart there”, he said emotionally. “I also have my heart there. Our family, our friends, everyone is cheering and very proud of you”, declared Pietra. She said that her husband decided to volunteer even though he was on vacation. She, even at such a delicate moment in her personal life, gave full support to her partner and confesses, “if she could, she would be there too”.

When talking about her daughter, the lump in her throat prevented her from finishing the sentence. “She keeps asking for daddy at home…”. The return, however, could occur soon. According to Rodolfo, the service order for the group of soldiers who left for the South last week expires on Monday (13).

The group can remain or be replaced by another. To date, firefighters from Mato Grosso do Sul have rescued 240 people and more than 200 animals from the waters that invaded the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
