Investigation history

The investigation began in the state of Paraná, when an elderly woman went to the police station reporting that she had been approached on a public street by two men and a woman and forced to carry out bank transactions in the cities of Castro, Carambeí and Ponta Grossa.

According to the Civil Police, these same people would have left Santa Catarina and gone to Paraná to commit the crimes in March, when two of them were arrested in the act while they had an elderly woman in their possession. Prisons were converted into preventive ones.

One of the members was wanted

One of those arrested at the time used a false identity, using data from a child who died at the age of 3. Convicted for more than 44 years in prison for the crimes of robbery, robbery and qualified homicide, he was on the list of most wanted in the State of Santa Catarina.

With the repercussions of the arrest, at least seven victims appeared at the police station. According to investigations, the organization had been operating in the region since 2022, approaching elderly victims on public roads.

How the scam worked

In the scam, a woman asked for help to withdraw a winning ticket, at which point a man forced the elderly to get into a car, often acting with violence and threats, restricting their freedom.

The victims were forced to carry out several bank transactions, in addition to having their jewelry and cell phones stolen, while a third person provided security for the pair.

Investigations continue to identify other members of the criminal association and the total financial loss to the victims.
