Tragedy in RS causes soybean prices to rise in Brazil and Chicago

The Brazilian soybean market showed major movements in the sale of the grain at the beginning of the week.

With the significant increase in prices on the Chicago Stock Exchange, internal prices showed considerable appreciation, creating opportunities for producers who carried out negotiations in larger volumes, highlighted Safras Consultoria.

Although the dollar has remained largely stable, price fluctuations in
Chicago exerted a significant influence on domestic prices.

Soy in Chicago

You soybean futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CBOT) closed Monday with higher prices. Floods in Rio Grande do Sul and damage to crops in Rio Grande do Sul boosted prices.

Inspections of North American soybean exports reached 348,654 tons in the week ending May 2, according to a weekly report released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In the previous week, soybean export inspections had reached 276,092 tons.

Soybean grain contracts for delivery in July closed up 33.75 cents, or 2.8%, $12.48 3/4 per bushel. The August position had a quote of $12.46 per bushel, with a gain of 30.50 cents or 2.5%.

In by-products, the July bran position closed with an increase of US$ 15.40 or 4.13% at US$ 387.60 per ton. In oil, contracts expiring in July closed at 43.84 cents, an increase of 0.76 cents or 1.76%.

Exchange

The commercial dollar ended the session up 0.08%, trading at R$5.0741 for sale and R$5.0720 for purchase. During the day, the US currency fluctuated between a minimum of R$5.0602 and a maximum of R$5.0918.
