Chamber approves decree recognizing calamity in Rio Grande do Sul

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Monday night (6) the draft legislative decree (PDL) 236/2024 sent by the federal government that recognizes the state of public calamity in Rio Grande do Sul until December 31, 2024. The measure it must still be approved by the Senate. ebc.gif?id=1593721&o=node

With this, the limits and deadlines set out in the Fiscal Responsibility Law may be suspended, facilitating and accelerating the transfer of federal resources to the state affected by floods, in the biggest climate crisis in its history. Money used for this purpose will also not be subject to commitment limitations.

The measure also allows Rio Grande do Sul and its municipalities to expand credit operations and receive voluntary transfers.

The tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul has already left 85 dead and 339 injured, in addition to 134 missing. More than 201,000 people are away from home, with 153,824 homeless and 47,676 in public shelters.

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira, informed that the deputies from the Rio Grande do Sul bench were released this week from their presence in the plenary, however the House will look for ways to record the presence and favorable votes of the parliamentarians from Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the leader of the government in the Chamber, deputy José Guimarães (PT-CE), by Wednesday (8) Congress will vote on other measures to help rebuild the state, depending on conversations between President Lula and the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite.
