Car carrying firefighters from SE to work on rescues in RS overturns on BR-116

The movement began at 5pm this Sunday (5), by land, due to the amount of equipment that will be used during the searches. In addition to two vehicles, they were carrying rescue boats, drones and other equipment. The vehicle involved in the accident was damaged and another will be taken so they can continue the mission. The other materials were not damaged.

The team left the city of Jequié, around 2 pm, after receiving support from the 8th Military Firefighters Group, which lent a vehicle for the Sergipe firefighters to continue their journey.

The firefighters sent are specialists in catastrophe situations and have already worked in similar situations, such as Brumadinho (MG). Five of the soldiers are specialists in responding to flood scenarios. A sniffer dog and the firefighter accompanying him were also sent to the mission.

Heavy rains in the state began in the last week of April. More than 80 people died. In total, 332 of the state’s 496 municipalities recorded some type of problem, affecting 707.1 thousand people. Meteorologists explain that the catastrophe is the result of at least three phenomena that affect the region and were worsened by changes in the climate.
