Aracaju, Sergipe – The state of Sergipe is highlighted in the most recent edition of the exhibition “Dos Brasis – Arte e Pensamento Negro”, with the participation of five talented local artists. The exhibition, opened this month at the Centro Cultural Sesc Quitandinha, in Petrópolis (RJ), offers a platform for expression and reflection on Afro-Brazilian identity through visual arts.

The exhibition, curated by Igor Simões in collaboration with Lorraine Mendes and Marcelo Campos, brings together around 240 black artists from all over Brazil, presenting a wide range of works that cover different periods and styles. Painting, photography, sculpture, installations and video installations converge to create a vivid panorama of the contributions of black artists to the Brazilian cultural scene.

“Dos Brasis – Arte e Pensamento Negro” appears as the result of a national research and collaboration effort, promoted by Sesc, with the aim of highlighting and promoting Afro-Brazilian production in the visual arts. The exhibition not only presents the works of these artists, but also encourages reflection on their influence and importance in the different social contexts of Brazil.

Among the representatives of the state of Sergipe, names such as Arthur Bispo do Rosário, Davi Cavalcante, Manuel Messias, Rayanne Ellem and Larissa Vieira stand out, whose works offer a unique vision of Sergipe’s identity and culture. These talented artists find the Dos Brasis exhibition a unique opportunity to share their narratives and perspectives with a broad and diverse audience.

The exhibition “Dos Brasis – Arte e Pensamento Negro” will be open to the public at Centro Cultural Sesc Quitandinha from May 4th to October 27th, 2024. This is an unmissable opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the richness of Afro-Brazilian art and diversity culture of Brazil.
