Telephone operators Claro, Tim and Vivo have released free access to mobile internet in cities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by the floods that have been ravaging the state since last week. The measure allows customers of these operators to communicate in cities where the fixed broadband internet structure is compromised, which makes the availability of Wi-Fi networks impossible.

It is worth noting that even prepaid plan customers who are without credit are being offered bonuses for access to 4G and 5G networks in Rio Grande do Sul. Claro is also offering free internet to its customers who are in default.

In total, residents of more than 100 municipalities affected by the storms are benefiting from the decision.

Check out the summary of bonus packages released by Claro, Tim and Vivo, according to the website Technoblog:

  • Clear: granted a 5 GB bonus to prepaid mobile service customers, in the impacted cities, of Claro Controle and Claro Flex. Customers receive the bonus for free, automatically. With the bonus, valid for seven days on Prezão, and for 30 days in the case of Controle and Flex plans. The decision applies even to customers without credit or in default;
  • TIM: released 10 GB internet bonus for pre and control customers;
  • Alive: granted a 10 GB allowance for prepaid customers in the region (valid for 5 days) and launched a matchfunding campaign for urgent items that can be accessed here.

Open networks to expand telephone signal

In addition to free access to 4G and 5G mobile networks, operators also decided to open their networks to users from other companies. This allows the telephone signal to be amplified and cover a larger area.

In other words, Tim users, for example, will be able to have a telephone signal from a Claro or Vivo tower, and vice versa.

For cell phones to use other operators’ networks, it is necessary to enable the “Roaming” and “Automatic Operator Selection” features on the devices.

Correios launches free services for donations

Correios also announced a free service to help those affected by flooding in Rio Grande do Sul.

Since this Monday (06), the entire network of Correios branches in the states of São Paulo and Paraná, in addition to part of the units in Rio Grande do Sul, will receive donations for the victims of the rains. The company will bear the costs of delivering the donated items.
