Bahia already records 307 cases of Oropouche Fever in 27 cities

The number of confirmed cases of the virus rose to 307 Oropouche fever in Bahia. The survey carried out based on data released on Friday (3), by the Central Public Health Laboratory (Lacen) points to the disease in 27 cities in the state.

The disease is viral, transmitted by Culicoides paraenses, known as maruim or sandfly. It is important to highlight that so far there is no record of direct transmission between people. The symptoms of Oropouche fever include fever, headache and muscle pain, similar to those of other arboviruses such as chikungunya and dengue.

However, there is no specific treatment for Oropouche Fever, focused only on relieving symptoms.

With the increase in the number of cases, the State Health Department intensified epidemiological investigation actions in regions where the disease was recorded.

Epidemiological Surveillance technicians are capturing the transmitting mosquito to identify whether they are infected. The objective is to better understand the disease scenario in Bahia.

In a note, the director of State Epidemiological Surveillance, Márcia São Pedro, said that public authorities have been on alert since the first confirmed case.

According to Márcia São Pedro, it is important that people wear long clothes and use repellents. “We also emphasize that you should not leave trash and leaves accumulated, as the existence of these materials facilitates the reproduction of the vector,” she says.
