Launched a month ago, Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation already has 46 donors in MS

Lawyer Thaynara Espínola, 26 years old, is one of 46 people from Mato Grosso do Sul who formalized their desire to be an organ donor through Aedo (Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation). Launched 30 days ago, the authorization is made available by the Notary Offices of Mato Grosso do Sul in partnership with the Judiciary.

According to Thaynara, her knowledge of the initiative came through an announcement made on social media by a notary’s office in Campo Grande.

She explains that she has always been clear with her family about her desire to be a donor, but because they had some resistance to the decision, she chose to formalize and ensure that her wish is fulfilled.

“I think I’ve always had this desire to help others. I talk a lot with my family about these issues,” she says.

“Also because death is a taboo in society and when we start talking about it, people say ‘oh stop, change the subject’. But for me, even after my departure, I want whatever can be reused to be… So many people spend years on the waiting list, waiting for a donation… People need to become aware of this issue, which despite being delicate, is very important”, he points out.

The lawyer, who has also been a blood donor since she was 17, believes that the family will respect her decision, but, just in case, she thought it was “nice to put it in writing”.

When selecting which organs she wants to donate, Thaynara was clear: “whatever is good, you can donate. I don’t want to take what can be used to save lives underground.”

She emphasizes that the process is practical and quick. Her order was issued on April 5th and digitally signed on the 18th of the same month.

How to formalize Aedo

Regulated by Provision nº 164/2024 of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), and available free of charge to the entire population, the Aedo made in a notary’s office can be consulted, via the deceased’s CPF, by those responsible for the National Transplant System, of the Ministry of Health , directly at the National Organ Donor Center.

The initiative, which seeks to help people who are currently waiting in line for an organ transplant, can be requested digitally at any of the Notary’s Offices in Brazil.

To carry out the Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation, the interested party fill out a form directly on the websitereceived by the selected Notary Office.

The notary then schedules a videoconference session to identify the interested party and collect their expression of will.

Finally, the citizen and the notary digitally sign the Aedo, which is available for consultation by those responsible for the National Transplant System.

The platform is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any device with internet access.

On the platform, citizens can also choose which organ they want to donate – bone marrow, intestine, kidney, lung, liver, cornea, heart or all

The e-Notary

The process of issuing the Electronic Organ Donation Authorization is carried out through the e-Notary platform, a national digital environment for carrying out notarial acts.

Anyone interested in donating organs should access the website www.aedo.org.br and request your Notarized Digital Certificate, an electronic signature that will ensure the identity of the applicant. After submitting the request, the notary selected by the citizen will contact you to hold a video conference to issue the Certificate.

Once issued, the future donor must fill out the form on the website’s home page with their details and indicate which organs they would like to donate. After completing the form, the citizen selects the Notary’s Office that will issue the Aedo and sign the document with their Notarized Digital Certificate, installed on their cell phone.

The document will be generated automatically and will be integrated into the Organ Donor Center immediately. The citizen will then be able to inform their family of the existence of the document to facilitate future searches. The document can be revoked at any time by the applicant.
