Today, the State Fire Department sent a team made up of 11 soldiers from Cuiabá, Várzea Grande, Barra do Garças, Sorriso and Lucas do Rio Verde (including divers and disaster operators), as well as sniffer dogs, Bela and Maia, to assist in response operations to the intense rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul. The teams will begin working from Monday (06). “We are bringing experts to carry out work similar to the support we provided last year, when the State also suffered from floods. We will be together with firefighters from other states, under the coordination of the Rio Grande do Sul Fire Department, and we will be based, initially, in Porto Alegre, which in recent days has been greatly affected by the rains”, explained the general commander, Colonel Alessandro Borges.

The military met at the 1st Military Firefighter Battalion, in Cuiabá, this Saturday, for strategic alignment of actions. “Our firefighters are going with a complete structure, so that the teams are self-sufficient. In addition to essential equipment for operational actions, the soldiers also carry food, tents and medicine”, stated the general commander, Colonel Alessandro Borges.

The soldiers are equipped with a generator, tent, air cylinders, buoys, life jackets, saws, hoes, pickaxes, radios for communication and drones. The teams also have five vehicles, two boats and a jet ski. Yesterday, the Integrated Air Operations Center (Ciopaer) also sent a team to assist in disaster response operations. The helicopter, two pilots and three crew members will act in the actions under the coordination of the Rio Grande do Sul aviation. These agents have extensive experience in searches, rescues and rescues.

According to this Saturday’s update from the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, there are 300 municipalities affected and 422.3 thousand people affected by the rains. More than 32,600 people are homeless, 9,500 are in shelters, 74 are injured. Another 67 people are missing. There are 57 deaths recorded.
