The heavy rains hitting the state of Rio Grande do Sul have already affected 510,585 people, according to a report released by the state’s Civil Defense at 6pm this Saturday. Of the 497 municipalities, at least 317 have already suffered some consequences from the storms that have hit the region since the beginning of the week. ebc.gif?id=1593497&o=node

Civil Defense confirms the deaths of 55 people and reports that seven are still under investigation. This Saturday, Civil Defense began publishing confirmed deaths as a result of the storms and those under investigation to determine the cause. The municipalities with the most deaths are Gramado (6) and Santa Maria (6).

To date, there are 107 injured and 74 citizens missing.

Statewide, there are 69,000 homeless people and 13,000 people in shelters.

At least 418,200 points are without electricity. There are still 1 million households without water supply (34% of the total), according to Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento (Corsan).

Municipalities are also having difficulty accessing telephony and mobile data. According to the operators, 90 cities are without TIM services, 43 without Vivo services and 53 municipalities cannot access Claro.
