On the morning of this Friday, the 3rd, a meeting of the Santa Catarina Parliamentary Forum took place at the Association of Municipalities of the European Valley (Amve), in Blumenau.

Senators Esperidião Amin (PP), Ivete da Silveira (MDB) and Jorge Seif (PL) were at the meeting, and federal deputies Valdir Cobalchini (MDB), Ana Paula Lima (PT), Ismael dos Santos (PSD), Daniela Reinehr (PL), Jorge Goetten (PL) and Zé Trovão.

State deputies Emerson Stein (MDB), Egídio Ferrari (PL) and Oscar Gutz (PL) also participated; the Secretary of State Infrastructure, Jerry Comper; the Secretary of Planning of Santa Catarina, Edgerd Usuy and mayors of the Vale do Itajaí region.

In his speech, Senator Amin said that what is happening in Rio Grande do Sul is here to stay. He confided that in 1983, during the great flood that occurred in Blumenau, Carlos Nobre, who according to him is the biggest Brazilian name in climate change, had already warned him about El Niño.

Amin says that not only El Niño, but La Niña and Equatorial Atlantic Warming make climate accidents more intense and more frequent.

So he argues that the Government of the State of Santa Catarina must always reinforce and modernize the Civil Defense system, which today is the best in Brazil, and the municipalities must create a guide for protection and prevention of climatic accidents as occurs in Japan.

The senator believes that these actions transform the challenge into a possibility of reducing damage, which will represent a lot for the social and economic area of the municipalities.

“What Japan does, it doesn’t do because it likes it, it’s because it gets hit a lot. And he knows he’s going to keep getting more and more beaten up. So we have to adapt and transform the challenge into a possibility of reducing harm”explained Esperidião.

Rain in Santa Catarina

During the 3rd and 4th of May, a cold front that acts over the ocean, combined with the advance of a low pressure system coming from Paraguay, brings intense and voluminous rains, accompanied by thunderstorms to Santa Catarina.

Practically throughout the State there is a risk of events such as flooding, floods, roofing, falling trees and damage to the electrical network.

The most intense rains are expected between the afternoon of Friday, 3rd, and the dawn of Saturday, 4th, with accumulations of between 100 and 150 mm in areas bordering Rio Grande do Sul.

In the central part of Canta Catarina, between 70 mm and 100 mm of rain is expected, which also causes concern for Civil Defense and Municipal Governments.

In the middle and lower Itajaí Valley, the North coast and part of the North Plateau, regions will be less affected by rain, with volumes between 20 mm and 40 mm.
