As a way of recognizing the cultural and social importance of Hip-Hop, the Fundação Cultural do Estado da Bahia announces an investment of R$1 million to strengthen the movement over the next five years. The contribution, coming from the Aldir Blanc Law, will be allocated to carrying out projects, events and awards which aim to recognize, value and protect Hip-Hop culture in the state.

The announcement was made during a meeting that brought together representatives of the Bahia Hip-Hop Parliamentary GT, a working group linked to Construção Nacional Hip-Hop, Bahia section, as well as collectives, crews and initiatives that make up the various elements of the movement. The meeting also resulted in the creation of a temporary Working Group to define the resource distribution criteria. FUNCEB has until May 11th to send the results of these discussions to the Ministry of Culture. The objective is for the first edition of the notice to be launched and executed this year.

Hip-Hop in Bahia is a vibrant and transformative cultural force, which deserves all our recognition and support (…) This investment is just the beginning of a commitment that FUNCEB has with the future of Hip-Hop in the state”, says FUNCEB director, Sara Prado.

For Well Santiago, one of the mobilizers of the Parliamentary GT, this is the moment to recognize the strength of the makers of Hip-Hop Culture throughout Bahia. “Through this collective achievement, by allocating substantial resources to Hip-Hop in Bahia, FUNCEB recognizes not only the artistic value of this form of expression, but also its vital role in building identity, promoting racial reparation, social inclusion and expanding cultural dialogue in Bahia.”
