Around 50 kilos of cocaine base paste were found inside gas cylinders in Amazonas. The cylinders were being transported on a ferry that left the municipality of Benjamin Constant bound for Manaus.
According to the Command of the 8th Military Police Battalion, the seizure took place on the Solimões River, close to the municipality of São Paulo de Olivença following a tip.
The police were informed that some people were using a canoe to transport cylinders from the Peruvian island of Iceland and board the material on a ferry docked in the port of Benjamin Constant.
According to the police, the vessel was intercepted during its journey and the search found around 20,000 cylinders. The materials were inspected as they should be empty, as the justification for transportation was that they would be taken to be supplied.
Around 50 kg of cocaine base paste were found inside the cylinders.
The drugs were seized and two of the ferry’s crew were arrested at the scene.
