Wednesday night and Thursday morning were marked by heavy rains that hit several regions of Rio Grande do Sul. The scenario is one of chaos and destruction, with floods and floods that left several areas practically impassable and put the lives of residents at risk.
In Porto Alegre, Passo Dorneles, between the municipality of Viamão and the Mário Quintana neighborhood, in the North Zone, is practically impassable. Residents of Rua Juca Batista, in the South Zone, reported that EPTC blocked the road due to heavy flooding. The situation worsens on Rua Ângelo Barbosa and Rua Barbosa Neto, where water has already invaded houses and left elderly people and children in a catastrophic situation.
The situation is also critical in other parts of Porto Alegre, such as Rua da Represa, in the São José neighborhood, and in the Coqueiro condominium, in the Belém Velho neighborhood, where the amount of water is impressive. The Fire Department was called to rescue stranded people, such as on Rua Gávea, in the Ipanema neighborhood, where elderly people were trapped in their homes.
In the Cavalhada neighborhood, the Cavalhada stream overflowed, taking over Rua Padre Ângelo Corso. Rua Gralha Azul, in the Jardim Carvalho neighborhood, in the North Zone, is also completely flooded, threatening to invade homes. In Gravataí, in the Vila Rica neighborhood, the streets are completely flooded due to heavy rain.
Streets turn into rivers in the interior
In São Sebastião do Caí, in Vale do Caí, a family was rescued from their completely flooded residence. Parents, children and animals tried to escape the water on stacked furniture and bunk beds. According to information, all those rescued are in a safe place. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to victims of these heavy rains that devastated the state.
The situation is also critical in other cities in the region. In Nova Prata, in Serra Gaúcha, the streets turned into real rivers. All this water must pass through the Taquari River Valley, further aggravating the situation. In Arroio do Meio, in the Taquari Valley, the central region is completely flooded. Faced with the worrying scenario, the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul issued an alert requesting that residents of these areas be immediately evacuated to safe locations.
The same happens in Estrela, in Vale do Taquari, where an explosion was recorded in an energy substation in the former Granóleo, now Camera Alimentos, leaving residents without electricity nearby. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to victims of these heavy rains that devastated the state.
