The extensive mass of hot and dry air gaining strength over Minas Gerais will keep the weather stable with high temperatures in practically all regions of the state of Minas Gerais in the coming days, potentially registering 5°C above the historical average until this Wednesday ( 1/5).

The forecast is from the Minas Gerais Meteorology and Water Resources System (Simge), from the Minas Gerais Water Management Institute (Igam). According to Heriberto dos Anjos, meteorologist at the agency, maximum temperatures will remain high, above 30°C in the afternoon throughout the state.

In the Triângulo Mineiro and the North region, thermometers may exceed 35°C. In the Northwest, West and Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, temperatures are expected to be around 33°C in the coming days.

“This heat wave acts mainly in Paraguay and between the South, Central-West and Southeast regions of Brazil. The trend, at least during these last days of April and early May, is for stable weather with high daytime temperatures “, explains Heriberto.

Simge

The work of monitoring climate conditions has been carried out in Igam for 25 years by the Minas Gerais Meteorology and Water Resources System (Simge). The system is a reference so that, in cases of natural events, public bodies can make decisions that can save lives.

The alert work is carried out in partnership with the State Civil Defense Coordination (Cedec) and has the support of Cemig to acquire the information. Furthermore, to carry out weather and climate forecasting, as well as meteorological monitoring and surveillance, Simge currently has tools such as satellite-derived products, meteorological and climate models from national and international bodies, lightning detection systems, data observed through automatic Data Collection Platforms (PCDS) and meteorological radar data.
