Four people injured when the roof of a concert hall collapsed last Sunday (28), in João Pessoa, remain hospitalized. According to a bulletin released today (30) by the Senador Humberto Lucena Emergency and Trauma Hospital, two men and two women present a stable clinical condition. In total, 23 men and 23 women were treated. Of the 46 people admitted to the unit, 42 have already been discharged.
The Paraíba Fire Department stated that the structure set up at the site had not been authorized by the corporation to hold events. The party called Vibe do Sagaiz was promoted by singer Gustavo Sagaiz, who was performing at the time of the accident.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tiago Aragão, director of Technical Activities at the Fire Department, the establishment had already been inspected, notified and fined for the lack of a fire safety project. The corporation instructed the owners to follow technical standards and prepare a project for each event, with the assembly of temporary structures, such as a stage and others. The guidance that was disrespected.
“This event occurred without the knowledge of the Fire Department and, therefore, irregularly. When we are going to hold a temporary event, a party, a show where temporary structures will be set up, our technical standard establishes that a fire and panic safety project must be carried out and reported to the Fire Department at least ten days in advance. Then, request the inspection. We will evaluate and, if everything is safe, we will issue an inspection report for temporary events. This building did not have this certification”, said Aragão.
Also according to Aragão, the venue had already been fined R$4,000 due to non-compliance with the rules.
“The Fire Department inspected, notified in December and, in each event, the owner was instructed to carry out the fire safety project and request a technical inspection. The person who should maintain contact with the Fire Department, submit the project for analysis and request an inspection was the owner,” he stated.
Through his social networks, singer Sagaiz said that the structure that collapsed was from the concert hall, and that the situation was not more serious because another stage structure, taken by the singer himself. prevented.
“Now let’s wait for the police and fire department to investigate! I just wanted to make it clear that it wasn’t the stage structure that fell…The stage structure saved the lives that were there. What fell was the roof of the concert hall. We all want a positioning for the venue,” she said. “We hired one of the most expensive places in João Pessoa! Speechless! My friends are in the hospital,” she wrote.
The social media pages of the UP Garden concert hall, the venue for the event, have been deleted. The Public Ministry of Paraíba (MPPB) reported that it had ordered a series of steps to investigate the conditions surrounding the collapse of the concert hall’s structure.
According to the prosecutor, Cláudia Cabral Cavalcante, who is working on the case, information was requested from the Fire Department, the Superintendency of Environmental Administration (Sudema) and the city hall of João Pessoa.
“Regarding the joint responsibility between the concert hall and the contractor hosting the event, we have issued a notification to those responsible for the project to immediately suspend all activities on site, as well as present all licenses and authorizations to operate safely and in compliance with the rules techniques that this type of activity requires. And, in the same way, we notify those responsible for the event to inform them about the presentation to the Fire Department of the fire and panic safety project, regarding the assembly of the stage, as required by the technical standard. We also requested the contract signed with the show’s directors, precisely to assess the joint responsibility between them”, said Cláudia Cabral.
