Rio – The Civil Police’s technical report identified flaws in the structure of the music festival in Riocentro, in the West Zone of Rio, whose event ended in the death of young João Vinicius Ferreira, aged 25. According to documents presented by the 42nd DP (Recreio dos Bandeirantes), responsible for the investigations, there were bare wires without adequate insulation in the event space. João died after suffering a strong electric shock when he pulled into a food truck during the ‘I Wanna Be Tour’ festival on March 9 this year. At the time, it was raining a lot.

In total, 13 people were indicted for homicide with possible intent, when the risk of killing is assumed, and procedural fraud. Among those reported are: coordinators and supervisors of the event, organized by the company 30e, electricians, owners and managers, as well as engineers and technical managers from Riocentro. The owners of the food truck were not charged, as, according to the investigation, the electrical installations were normal.

A few hours later, on March 10, the victim’s mother, Roberta Ferreira Isaac, recorded exposed wires lying on the floor. During the investigation, the agents also found wires inside a manhole filled with water. Several witnesses confirmed that they saw wires spread across the floor and complained about the lack of organization.

At the time, the space was not preserved for inspection, being cleaned and emptied before the police arrived. The food truck responsible for the electrical discharge that hit the victim was also found empty and clean, before the investigation was carried out.

Remember the case

On the day of the event, a big storm hit the place. When trying to protect himself from the rain, João ended up touching a food truck and receiving an electric shock. He suffered a cardiac arrest, was resuscitated, rescued and taken to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca, but suffered another arrest and did not survive.

According to the family, a coroner from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) said that the young man had a mark on his back caused by an electrical conductor, but that he was not wet at the time of the incident, as his clothes were dry, as were his clothes. documents.

At the time, the company 30e regretted the case and reported that during the rain, the public went to the covered marquee, following safety protocols. “At this moment, regrettably, an incident occurred in the uncovered area close to an outsourced food truck: Young João Vinícius Ferreira Simões was hit by an electrical discharge. The security system was activated at the same time for assistance and emergency measures” , said an excerpt from the statement.

When contacted by the report, the company said it was waiting to have full access to the documents to take a position.
