The Secretary of Education of Santa Catarina, Aristides Cimadon, announced that a public competition will be opened with 10 thousand vacancies for the State’s education network, eight thousand vacancies for teachers and two thousand for assistants. The statement was made in an interview with SCC Meio-Dia this Monday (29). The competition is scheduled for June with the notice being released in May
The announcement of the new education competition comes one day after governor Jorginho Mello (PL) reaffirmed that the government will resume negotiations with the Education Workers Union (Sinte) only after the striking teachers return to the classroom. The government says 12% of teachers are on strike.
The head of the education ministry reiterated the governor’s position on resuming negotiations when all teachers return to the classroom.
Governor Jorginho Mello stressed, in a video released last Sunday (28), that Santa Catarina would have a “historic contest”. When questioned by communicator Fernando Machado, the secretary replied that the public competition for education must have its notice published by the end of May.
The secretary explained that the government has already met the teachers’ demands, however, unzipping the teaching salary table in Santa Catarina, a change demanded by the union, cannot be made, as it exceeds the “prudential spending limit”.
“We had a short journey that forced us to do the removal competition first. Then we had a lawsuit that forced us to call those approved in 2004. It took a while, but the notice is ready to be released”

The government should start hiring substitute teachers from this Monday (29), depending on the demand needed to completely replace the strikers. Cimadon also reaffirmed the governor’s commitment that all teachers, who are not in the classroom, will have their missed days deducted.
“If they are not in the classroom, it is clear that there is a determination that absences will be discounted”
Activity hour should cost 100 million
Secretary Aristides Cimadon confirmed that the activity hour will be implemented for teachers from the first to the fifth year from 2025. The estimated cost for public coffers is R$100 million, due to the hiring of teachers.
“Activity hours are guaranteed for teachers from the first to the fifth year. It should start at the beginning of next year because this year’s curriculum is already taking place. Of course, the hour of activity also involves resources, 100 million that the State must disburse”
