Bahia celebrates the inauguration of a new Wild Animal Release Area (ASAS) in the Caatinga biome, located at Fazenda Raiz, in Água Fria. With 678 hectares certified to receive fauna recovered by the Institute of the Environment and Water Resources (Inema), this area is Bracell’s fourth ASAS, totaling more than 1,000 reintegrated animals.

On April 9, the first release took place in the new area, reinstating six boas, a white-winged bird, a black bird and three northeastern cardinals. According to Igor Macedo, biologist and environmental specialist at Bracell, the diversity of fauna and flora adapted to long dry periods in the region is crucial to the success of the reintroduction of species.

The creation of this new WINGS reflects Bracell’s commitment to sustainability and highlights its role in preserving the environment. Joedson Silva, Bracell’s Environment and Certifications coordinator, highlights the importance of this initiative for society and the natural environment, highlighting the company’s commitment to the climate and society in each action taken.

More than 1,000 animals from 102 different species have already been reintegrated in partnership with Inema in its four ASAS, some of these species being threatened or of importance to medicine. In addition to Fazenda Raiz, other official release areas include the Cachoeira Project, the Sergipe Project and the Lontra Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN).

Bracell, one of the largest producers of dissolving pulp and special cellulose in the world, reinforces its commitment to environmental preservation through these initiatives, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and the promotion of a sustainable future.
