Semas signs up for the Environmental Services Payment Program in New Department

In Novo Repartimento, the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability of Pará (Semas) promoted, from April 23 to 24, the registration of rural producers to the pilot project of Payments for Environmental Services (PSA), the project ‘Valorizes Sustainable Territories’.

The initiative encourages, with the payment of up to R$1,400 per hectare to rural producers, regeneration, recovery, maintenance and environmental conservation actions.

The initiative is aimed at preserving and restoring the environment and is also a possibility for training participants to become active agents in promoting services aimed at ecosystem sustainability and conservation.

The strategy is part of the Integrated Action Program for Sustainable Territories (PTS) and anticipates the State Payment Program for Environmental Services of Pará (PSA). Producers will also be able, in the future, to become providers of environmental and ecosystem services, with educational and technical training activities that will be offered by the Program.

Rural producer Genivaldo Fernandes explains that the presence of the state government in the municipality of Novo Repartimento is very important as it brings confidence to the community. “I hope that the program continues to improve even more and that it reaches the end of the line, reaches where we are, right there with the farmer, that is what we hope for”, said the producer.

At the event, doubts were resolved regarding the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), and producers were guided and instructed on conservation practices by the technical team of the Sustainable Territory program

Rural producer Marieta Linhares said that for a long time the municipality of Novo Repartimento needed assistance like this provided by Semas, a necessary assistance on the matter. “We still didn’t have anything, at least we here in Novo Repartimento, but here we had a lot of difficulty getting assistance and this help from the government arrived at a good time”, she explained.
